We are delighted to announce that Alvin Hiew, our Diploma in International Hotel and Tourism Management student, has been awarded the Ambassador of the Month May 2022, Front of House by Sofitel Singapore.
Alvin is on his 6 months internship as an F&B trainee at the hotel, and we congratulate him on his recent recognition.
Check out what Alvin has to say about his internship experience!
1. What are some of your job duties as an F&B intern?
My job duties generally cover all the work required in the F&B Department in the restaurant and bar. Some responsibilities include understanding the tasks needed for all shifts, proper food presentation before serving, preparing cocktails and mocktails, taking orders and keying into the POS system, and cashiering duties.
2. How would you describe your internship experience so far? Were there any challenges, and how did you overcome them?
The experience was intense because I needed to learn and cope with daily operations simultaneously.
It took me two weeks to get used to the service flow. Most importantly, you need to seek and clarify any job-related duties you are unsure of with your superior.
3. What have you learned in your internship so far?
I have gained knowledge of the procedures and duties of respective roles in restaurants and bar operations, how to orientate new staff and part-timers, handling demanding customers, proper hygiene and ways to upsell products to customers.
4. Are you satisfied with the support provided by EGA for your internship?
The lecturers were always there to support and guide us on the problems faced during the internship.
